Cologne/Bonn Airport had around 2022 million passengers in 8,8. In a direct comparison with the value that was achieved a year earlier, it was thus possible to almost double. The freight volume was 971.000 tons.

For the first time since October 2019, more than a million passengers were welcomed in one month - three times: in July, August and September. The positive development is mainly due to holiday traffic. Air passenger traffic to tourist destinations exceeded the 2019 level by six percent. Flights to Spain and Turkey were particularly in demand in 2022. Around nine million passengers are expected in 2023.

"The figures are very pleasing, and we expect a further recovery in passenger traffic in 2023," says Thilo Schmid, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH. "In 2022, the extremely rapid increase in passenger traffic after a still weak first quarter caused many operational challenges in the entire air traffic system and also in Cologne/Bonn. In 2023 it is now up to the industry to score points with reliability. We work hand in hand with all partners at the site to achieve this.”
