Following the container fire at DHL in Leipzig at the end of July, the Federal Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation.
The incident occurred when a prepared incendiary device ignited in a package shortly before it was loaded onto a cargo plane. The fire spread to other shipments and caused major damage. According to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, two suspects from Poland and Lithuania are in custody in connection with the sabotage. According to reports, a more serious outcome of the incident could only be prevented by the delay of the affected cargo flight.
The case has raised international questions, as security authorities suspect, according to media reports, that Russian secret services may have been behind the attack. According to investigators, it is possible that lower-level agents acted for the Russian secret service. According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, there were already indications of possible acts of sabotage before the fire. DHL Express has confirmed the investigations, and the "Tagesspiegel" reported that the incendiary package exploded shortly before being loaded onto the aircraft.
Further investigations will also examine links to Russia and possible geopolitical backgrounds.
