Cuba introduces electronic visa for tourists

Advertising

Since August 1, 2024, tourists can apply for an electronic visa, the so-called "E-Visa Cuba", for travel to Cuba. In the medium term, this is intended to replace the tourist card used to date. The application for the e-visa can be filled out online, and the relevant information and application forms have now been provided by the Federal Foreign Office.

Until now, tourists who did not want to stay in Cuba for more than 90 days could enter the country with a tourist card, which was available from the Cuban embassy or commercial providers. This regulation will remain in place for the time being, but the e-visa is intended to simplify entry procedures in the long term. An extension of the stay for another 90 days remains at the discretion of the Cuban authorities. Business travelers who stay longer or have non-tourist purposes must continue to apply for a traditional visa, which can take several weeks.
