Czech Republic records continued tourism boom

The Czech tourism sector is experiencing another significant upswing in the second quarter of 2025. According to data from CzechTourism Over 6,3 million guests traveled to the country, booking a total of more than 15 million overnight stays. Both domestic and foreign tourists contributed to this growth. The main destinations were the capital Prague, followed by the regions South Moravia and South Bohemia.

Of the arrivals, 53,3 percent were Czech guests, but the number of foreign visitors is increasing. Demand from distant markets is developing particularly dynamically. The director of CzechTourism, František Reismüller , explained that the number of travelers from Ireland , Argentina , and Japan , in particular , has risen sharply year-on-year. Traditionally, Germany remains the most important foreign market with 665.000 arrivals, followed by Slovakia and Poland. The average length of stay for visitors is longest in spa regions such as Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad).

Hotels proved to be the most popular type of accommodation, accounting for approximately 4,4 percent of all arrivals with 70 million guests. The number of overnight stays in hotels rose to 10 million, representing an increase of 4,1 percent. Guesthouses also recorded growth of 5,6 percent. Overall, over half of hotel guests were foreign travelers, underscoring the importance of international tourism for the Czech economy.

The continued upward trend in the first half of the year, with a total of almost 10,5 million visitors, suggests a very positive result for 2025 as a whole. Stable domestic demand and the return of Asian visitors form a solid foundation for what could be the most successful tourism year in ten years. The government and the tourism association are pursuing a strategy of further increasing visitor length of stay and spending.
