The German leisure airline Discover Airlines has expanded its southern European route network and now offers a new direct connection from its main hub Frankfurt am Main to the southern Italian port city of Brindisi.
The inaugural flight, number 4Y806, departed Frankfurt on time at 08:35 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, and landed at Brindisi-Casale Airport in Italy after a flight time of approximately two hours. A short- and medium-haul Airbus A320 aircraft was used on this highly sought-after route. The new route is currently the only non-stop connection between the financial metropolis on the Main River and the historically significant destination on the Adriatic coast.
The Lufthansa Group's leisure airline will operate the new route twice weekly during the current summer season until the end of October, with flights scheduled for Mondays and Fridays. By adding Brindisi, the airline is strategically expanding its presence in the southern European holiday region of Apulia. Brindisi, along with the already established destination of Bari, is Discover Airlines' second destination in this region, geographically known as the heel of Italy's boot. The split between two airports in northern and southern Apulia allows holidaymakers more flexibility in planning tours within the region.
From an economic perspective, Frankfurt Airport benefits from the new connection by strengthening its tourist point-to-point traffic to Southern Europe. The port city of Brindisi is gaining increasing importance as a starting point for tourism in Southern Italy, as cultural centers such as the Baroque city of Lecce, the town of Alberobello (known for its trulli), and the coastal city of Ostuni are easily accessible from there. Thanks to the stable late-summer weather with mild temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius, the tourist season in this region traditionally extends well into autumn, promising the airline consistent load factors throughout the summer months.
Discover Airlines' expansion is part of the ongoing consolidation of the European leisure flight market, where the Lufthansa subsidiary is increasingly gaining market share on classic warm-water routes in the Mediterranean. The company is utilizing the existing infrastructure and feeder network of its parent company at Frankfurt Airport to efficiently transport both leisure travelers from the greater Frankfurt area and connecting passengers from the global route network to the Apulian Adriatic coast.
