The airline Sylt Air will offer a non-stop connection between Dortmund and Westerland in the 2023 summer flight schedule. This will initially be served twice a week and will complement the existing service from Hamburg.
As a rule, a Cessna C208 Grand Caravan should be used between Dortmund and Sylt. This can carry up to nine passengers. According to Sylt Air, the top speed of the single-engine commercial aircraft is around 341 kilometers per hour.
In Dortmund there is a special feature that distinguishes this connection from other flights. The handling does not take place in the “normal terminal”, but in the general aviation area. This definitely has advantages for passengers, because there is usually less volume in the area of security checks.
Sylt Air offers two different tariffs on the new route. In the "Flex" they charge 385 euros per person and route. One piece of luggage weighing a maximum of 15 kilograms and one piece of hand luggage weighing a maximum of eight kilograms are included. Rebookings and cancellations are possible. Children under the age of ten pay less: 192,50 euros.
The “Comfort” tariff is offered as an alternative. This costs 415 euros per person and route and includes the option of rebooking once free of charge. The conditions for cancellation are also more relaxed. The checked baggage and hand baggage included are identical. Children under the age of ten pay EUR 207,50 in this tariff.
Sylt Air is a German airline that specialized in traffic to/from Westerland a few years ago.
