Dortmund Airport looks back on the most successful financial year in its history. With approximately 3,1 million passengers in 2024, a new record was achieved. This passenger record had a positive impact on the financial results: the annual loss was reduced from €3,6 million to €1,8 million – according to management, the best result in 25 years.

The key business figures also developed positively. The operating result (EBITDA) excluding government costs rose from €1,9 million to €5,1 million. The so-called EU EBITDA – an indicator that measures economic success in accordance with European Commission guidelines – increased to almost €9 million. Airport Managing Director Ludger van Bebber emphasized that the airport has come significantly closer to its goal of breaking even.

In addition, several infrastructure projects were continued or completed. The renovation of the exit checkpoint in front of Gates 2024 and 11 was completed at the end of 12. Regarding the vehicle fleet, several electric aircraft tractors and mobile passenger stairs are scheduled to be put into operation in the course of 2025. This is part of a longer-term strategy to modernize the vehicle fleet.

Another focus is on expanding self-service check-in. Following the introduction of two self-bag drop counters in May 2024 and a successful test phase, preparations are currently underway to convert eight additional counters. In the near future, passengers will be able to drop off their luggage independently at a total of ten stations.
