Berlin-based adventure travel specialist Chamäleon has officially released its full travel program for the calendar year 2027 for booking. According to the company, this sales launch, remarkably early compared to others in the industry, is a response to changing consumer behavior in post-pandemic tourism.
The trend in the German travel market is clearly moving towards very long-term booking decisions, especially for high-priced and logistically complex long-distance trips. By making the allotments available early, the tour operator aims to offer both end customers and cooperating brick-and-mortar travel agencies maximum planning and cost certainty for the season after next.
According to the tour operator's sales management, measurable demand for the year after next is already emerging in the first few days. Chamäleon has finalized contracts with global destination management companies, transport providers, and accommodations in recent months to reliably secure the routes for its small group tours. The program focuses on guided tours in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, which require intensive advance planning for visa applications and national park permits. Industry analysts also see the early booking window as an attempt to block flight capacity with international airlines at advantageous early-bird rates before regular fares increase over the course of the coming year.
To strengthen brick-and-mortar travel agencies in a volatile market environment, the tour operator is linking the early booking start with specific conditions for its agency partners. The cooperating travel agencies receive their full commission immediately after a booking is completed. According to the company's terms and conditions, this commission remains with the agency in full even if the customer subsequently cancels the booking. In addition, as part of its current company anniversary celebration, Chamäleon is granting its sales partners a special bonus of €30 per documented booking, provided it is registered by the end of June.
This sales strategy aims to directly support the liquidity and financial stability of travel agencies and to incentivize the active marketing of the long-term program. In the fiercely competitive market for specialty travel, tour operators are increasingly trying to retain travel agencies through reliable commission models and the exclusion of cancellation refunds. Chamäleon's move could serve as a signal for the overall market, as many tour operators traditionally present their main catalogs and rates for the year after next much later, in the autumn or winter. The logistical feasibility of this depends significantly on the price stability of international service providers.
