Weeze Airport on the Lower Rhine region anticipates a significant increase in passenger traffic for the 2025 Easter holidays. Between April 11 and 27, 2025, 125.000 passengers are expected, representing a 40 percent increase compared to the previous year's Easter holiday period. The reason for this significant increase is that the Easter holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia fall entirely within the summer flight schedule this year, whereas this was only partially the case last year. In addition, the range of flights and destinations has been expanded.
A total of 340 departures to over 40 different destinations are planned during the Easter holidays. In the comparable period in 2024, 88.000 travelers were counted with 254 departures to 37 destinations. The top destinations for Easter holidaymakers from Weeze remain sun-drenched destinations. Mallorca is the undisputed leader with 35 planned departures, followed by Girona (21), Bergamo (19), Alicante (15), and Edinburgh (14). Destinations such as Malaga, Zadar, Tangier, Bari, and Zagreb are also very popular. Last year, Mallorca, Malaga, and Edinburgh topped the list of most popular destinations, albeit with fewer flights.
To accommodate the expected influx of passengers and ensure travelers have a pleasant start to their vacation, Weeze Airport has intensified its preparations. The parking areas in the immediate vicinity of the terminal are being expanded. Approximately 1.300 additional parking spaces are expected to be available by summer, the first 400 of which are scheduled to be operational by the beginning of the Easter holidays. The airport operator recommends that all travelers arrive at the airport at least two and a half hours before their scheduled departure to allow sufficient time for check-in and security checks, ensuring a relaxed start to their journey.
