Erfurt-Weimar Airport has commissioned new battery-powered ground power units (eGPUs) to increase efficiency in aircraft handling. This measure aims to optimize energy consumption and improve working conditions for ramp personnel.
The project to procure the electrical ground power units was funded with a total of €200.000 by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. NOW GmbH coordinated the project, while the Federal Office for Administrative Services approved the applications.
René Schumann, head of the airport's Safety Office, emphasized the advantages of the new eGPUs: lower energy and maintenance costs, as well as improved working conditions on the apron.
In addition to the eGPUs, an electric follow-me vehicle and an electric baggage carousel were introduced to further increase the efficiency of airport operations.
