The Cologne-based airline Eurowings was awarded the title of industry leader among discount airlines at the "German Customer Awards 2026". In the latest study by the German Society for Consumer Studies (DtGV), the Lufthansa subsidiary took first place in all three main categories: customer satisfaction, customer service, and value for money.
The result is based on a comprehensive survey incorporating approximately 589.000 customer reviews of companies from over 250 industries. The award reinforces the company's market positioning as a value carrier that maintains its competitive pricing while simultaneously striving for a higher service standard than traditional low-cost airlines.
Additional market analyses from the industry show that Eurowings scores particularly well due to the flexibility of its booking options and its dense route network at German airports. With a fleet of around 100 aircraft, the airline serves approximately 150 destinations and maintains 13 international bases. Its strong presence at Palma de Mallorca Airport, in particular, solidifies the company's position as one of the leading leisure airlines in Europe. According to industry experts, the positive perception of the airline's value for money is also attributable to its integration into the Miles & More program and the available fare classes, which range from basic services to business class options on short-haul flights.
The airline's economic success is reflected in its passenger numbers, which remain stable at over 20 million passengers per year. The company currently employs approximately 5.500 people and benefits operationally from its affiliation with the Lufthansa Group, Europe's largest airline group. This integration enables synergies in maintenance, ground handling, and sales, ultimately contributing to the stability of customer service. The airline's three customer awards are seen in industry circles as proof that its strategy of differentiating itself from the ultra-low-cost carrier segment through added services and reliability has resonated with passengers in 2026.
For the current fiscal year, Eurowings plans to further optimize its digital service chains to make operations at airports more efficient. The focus is on expanding its direct flight offerings from outside major hubs, particularly to generate time savings for business travelers. By combining competitive prices with high-quality service elements, the airline intends to further increase its market share in European point-to-point traffic. The results of the DtGV ranking serve as confirmation for management of its investments in product quality and employee training.
