With the resumption of the flight connection to Cologne by Eurowings and the new non-stop connection to Hanover by Skyalps, Klagenfurt Airport will experience a significant strengthening of its offering in May 2025.

After a two-year hiatus, Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings resumed its flight service between Klagenfurt and Cologne on May 2, 2025. The route will now be served twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

The first landing of the Airbus A319 from Cologne was celebrated at Klagenfurt Airport with a traditional water fountain by the airport fire department and musical accompaniment by the Sattnitz Trio. Passengers were greeted with regional specialties such as Carinthian Reindling, underscoring the significance of this event for the region.

Maximilian Wildt, Managing Director of Klagenfurt Airport, emphasized the relevance of this connection: "Welcoming Eurowings back to our location as a partner is an important milestone for our route development and the continued positive development of our airport."

The flight time between Klagenfurt and Cologne is approximately one hour and twenty minutes. The connection is particularly attractive for business travelers and weekend tourists. One-way prices start at around seventy euros in May 2025.

Skyalps connects Klagenfurt with Hanover

One day before Eurowings' comeback, on May 1, 2025, Klagenfurt Airport celebrated another premiere: The Italian regional airline Skyalps launched its new non-stop service between Hanover and Klagenfurt. The route will be served twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

The maiden flight was also celebrated with a water fountain and musical accompaniment. The flight time is approximately two hours. One-way prices start at approximately €194.

Christian Henkel, Managing Director of UKS Touristik, a Skyalps partner, spoke positively about the new connection: "UKS Touristik is delighted to now be able to count Klagenfurt/Carinthia as one of our holiday gems and to offer our guests from Northern Germany holiday packages in this beautiful region."

Significance for tourism and the economy

The resumption of the Cologne connection and the new route to Hanover are of great importance for both tourism and the economy in Carinthia. North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony are among the most important source markets for Carinthian tourism.

Klaus Ehrenbrandtner, Managing Director of Kärnten Werbung, emphasized: "Eurowings' non-stop connection between Cologne and Klagenfurt is a major benefit for Carinthian tourism. North Rhine-Westphalia is one of our most important source markets – thanks to its convenient and quick accessibility, we are strengthening our position as an attractive holiday destination."

The connection to Hanover is also considered strategically important. Martin Payer, CEO of the Carinthian Investment Management, explained: "This connection is a showcase project for practical cooperation in tourism – and a strong signal for future route developments."
