Eurowings resumes Düsseldorf–Innsbruck flights after a break

Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings reinstated its flight connection between Düsseldorf and Innsbruck on December 12, 2025, after a long hiatus, adding it to its winter flight schedule. The first Airbus A320 landed punctually at 13:00 PM at Innsbruck Airport, where passengers and crew were greeted with a traditional Tyrolean welcome. The direct route will operate twice weekly, on Fridays and Sundays, throughout the winter season and complements Eurowings' existing service to and from Hamburg.

The flight time between the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Tyrolean capital is just 1 hour and 10 minutes. The inaugural flight was already well-booked, demonstrating the high demand: 136 arriving and 87 departing passengers were counted. Michael Händel, Vice President Network Management and Airport Relations at Eurowings, emphasized the importance of the connection, as it provides winter sports enthusiasts from Germany's most populous state with quick and direct access to the Tyrolean Alps.

The new direct connection is also being viewed positively on the Tyrolean side. Barbara Plattner, Managing Director of Innsbruck Tourism, emphasized that Germany is the strongest source market and that North Rhine-Westphalia accounts for almost 25 percent of all German overnight stays in the region. The routes to Düsseldorf and Hamburg are therefore providing a strong boost to business occupancy rates. Furthermore, Düsseldorf serves as a potential transfer airport within the Lufthansa Group for attractive international connecting flights. At the same time, other airlines such as easyJet and British Airways are expanding their services at Innsbruck Airport.
