On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, the airline Eurowings launched a new non-stop connection from Cologne/Bonn Airport to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

The route will be served three times a week as part of the winter flight schedule: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. An Airbus A320neo will be used, which is known for its lower fuel consumption and modern equipment. Eurowings had already launched a connection to Dubai for the first time the previous week, which is also offered three times a week. Airport boss Thilo Schmid welcomed the new destinations Jeddah and Dubai as a valuable addition to the route network. He stressed the importance of the connection to Jeddah, which plays an important role as the gateway to the holy city of Mecca and as an economic center. Jeddah is the first direct route from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saudi Arabia and offers access to one of the largest ports in the Arab world as well as numerous cultural attractions, including the old town of Jeddah, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
