The Lufthansa Group has announced extensive expansions for its 2026/27 winter flight schedule, with a focus on expanding the new "Allegris" cabin configuration. Starting next winter, the number of destinations served with the modernized interior will increase significantly.
Eleven new long-haul destinations will be added from Frankfurt am Main, including Vancouver, Houston, Atlanta, and Seoul. A strategic focus is on Southeast Asia: The Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, will be served five times a week nonstop starting October 25. The Boeing 787-9, which has 287 seats in three classes, will be used for this route and is intended to strengthen the group's competitiveness in this dynamic economic region.
At the group's other hubs, capacities and comfort offerings are also being significantly expanded. From Munich, Lufthansa is extending its Allegris service to routes to Singapore, Washington, and Cape Town. At the same time, subsidiaries are increasing their presence in various markets. Swiss is integrating Bengaluru in southern India into its network for the first time and deploying the Airbus A350 with the new "Swiss Senses" cabin concept on routes to Johannesburg and Shanghai. ITA Airways is entering the Central American market for the first time with a new connection from Rome to Santo Domingo, while Brussels Airlines is adding its Kilimanjaro route in Tanzania to its winter schedule due to high booking numbers.
In the leisure and short-haul flight segment, Discover Airlines, Edelweiss, and Eurowings are focusing on targeted frequency increases in high-demand regions. Discover Airlines will connect Frankfurt with Agadir and Munich with Fez and Ivalo in Lapland. Eurowings is consolidating its market leadership at Berlin Brandenburg Airport with new winter destinations in northern Finland and the continuation of its metropolitan connections to Rome and London. Swiss airline Edelweiss is responding to increased interest in Scandinavia and the Canary Islands by expanding its flight offerings and extending the season for Nordic destinations such as Luleå.
The strategic realignment also includes a general increase in frequency on existing overseas routes. Destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá, Johannesburg, and Mexico City will be served more frequently this coming winter to meet rising demand in the premium segment. Industry analysts view this large-scale rollout of the new cabin products as a necessary step to gain ground in international comparisons among network airlines. All new routes and capacity expansions are already integrated into the booking systems and mark the most extensive deployment of the new cabin generations within the group to date.
