Brazilian aerospace company Embraer, in close cooperation with Portuguese maintenance company OGMA, has completed the first scheduled 24-month inspection of a C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft of the Hungarian Air Force.
The technical work was carried out at OGMA's workshops in Portugal. This operational success marks an important step in establishing and consolidating a European support and maintenance structure for this aircraft type, which is increasingly being procured by European armed forces. The measure is based on a comprehensive service contract between Embraer and the Hungarian Ministry of Defence, which covers technical support, logistics chains, and long-term fleet maintenance.
Hungary is considered the second NATO member state, after Portugal, to opt for the modern Brazilian-made tactical multi-purpose transport aircraft. The Hungarian Air Force completed the full delivery of its fleet of two aircraft in November 2025. Since the initial partial commissioning at the end of 2024, the aircraft have been used extensively for national and international transport missions. The commander of the Hungarian Air Force, Brigadier General Tamás Bali, expressed his satisfaction with the technical implementation and the coordination between the Hungarian teams, OGMA, and Embraer, and emphasized the importance of ensuring operational readiness within the framework of NATO commitments.
The C-390 Millennium is designed as a next-generation twin-engine transport aircraft intended to replace the aging Lockheed C-130 Hercules in many user nations. The aircraft's mission profile includes cargo and troop transport, paratrooper operations, aerial refueling, and search and rescue missions. A unique feature of the Hungarian configuration is the integration of a modular, mobile intensive care unit (ICU). This medical equipment enables the Hungarian Armed Forces to independently conduct complex evacuation flights and critical medical transports under military conditions, significantly expanding the aircraft's operational capabilities.
