German Airways presents new brand identity with revised aircraft livery

German Airways, Germany's second-oldest airline (formerly WDL Aviation), is undergoing a comprehensive rebranding of its fleet of eight Embraer E190 aircraft. The first aircraft sporting the new design has left the maintenance hangar at Cologne/Bonn Airport, presenting a modernized and dynamic appearance. This further development of the corporate design is intended to further emphasize the airline's identity as a German company and set a visible example of reliability and technical expertise. The aircraft, with the registration D-AJHW, will undergo final maintenance in the coming days before returning to regular flight operations shortly.

A striking feature of the new livery is the distinctively redesigned tail fin. This now features a dynamic dotted representation of the German national flag in black, red, and gold, clearly contrasting with the rest of the aircraft's fuselage. The winglets are also designed in the German colors. With this fresh look, German Airways emphasizes its origins as a German airline while simultaneously tying in with the previous color scheme, which was already anchored in the design as an expression of its "flag carrier" status. What's new is that the airline has dispensed with the explicit mention of the company name on the tail, instead letting the colors speak for themselves.

Maren Wolters, Managing Director of German Airways, expressed her delight at the launch of the new design, which coincides with the start of the current summer flight schedule. She emphasized that the German Airways brand has successfully established itself in the European market in its almost five years of existence. Now, as a service provider with typically German quality features such as reliability and high technical performance, it is time to take the next step visually.

In addition to the charter business, which is used by sports teams, among others, German Airways' focus is primarily on the so-called wet lease sector. The airline leases its aircraft, including crew, to major European airlines. Currently, a large portion of the fleet is operating on behalf of KLM Cityhopper and will in future also bear the "Operating for KLM Cityhopper" logo. Maren Wolters emphasized the importance of this integration of the partner logo as a sign of appreciation for the service provided and the strategic partnership with KLM.

The completion of the redesign of the first aircraft marks the beginning of the gradual transition of the entire fleet to the new corporate design. With this step, German Airways aims not only to present a contemporary image but also to establish a clear and unmistakable reference to its German heritage. Modernizing the fleet through rebranding underscores the company's self-image as a reliable and technically sophisticated partner in the European aviation market.
