Advertising

In May, German airports recorded a noticeable increase in passenger volume. A total of 19,7 million passengers were counted, which corresponds to an increase of 10,0% compared to the same month last year. International traffic in particular grew strongly, while the domestic German market only increased slightly. Cargo volume also rose by 6,0% compared to the previous year to a total of 405.064 tonnes.

The recovery rate compared to 2019 was 2024% in May 87,9, which shows a significant recovery in air traffic. However, despite the positive trend, 12,1% of passengers are still missing compared to May 2019. Commercial flight movements increased by 4,5% to 169.143 takeoffs and landings.

In domestic German air traffic, growth stagnated with just 2,1 million passengers, while European traffic grew particularly dynamically with 14,15 million passengers. Intercontinental demand rose by 11,6% to 3,44 million passengers.

Cumulatively, German airports recorded a total of 2024 million passengers from January to May 76,73, an increase of 11,4% compared to the same period last year. Nevertheless, growth momentum is declining over the course of the year, which is partly attributed to high location costs. The development of cargo volumes also remains positive, with unloading in particular gaining momentum.
