Graz Airport ended 2024 with significant growth. With 819.273 passengers, the airport recorded an increase of 11,8 percent compared to the previous year, thus reaching a new record. Charter traffic in particular contributed significantly to this success. At the same time, the 2025 summer flight schedule was presented, which promises numerous new destinations.
With an increase of 86.000 passengers compared to 2023, the positive development at Graz Airport continued. The charter segment recorded impressive growth of 31,1 percent, reflecting the increasing desire to travel in the private sector. Scheduled flights also increased by 6,5 percent. A total of 10.251 flight movements were registered, an increase of 6,2 percent compared to the previous year.
Wolfgang Grimus, managing director of the airport, emphasised the importance of these figures: "People's strong desire to travel continues to be evident. It is particularly pleasing that more and more foreign guests are arriving in Styria by plane." However, this is offset by a stagnating business travel segment, which is affected by economic uncertainty.
Summer flight schedule 2025: New destinations and more connections
The 2025 summer flight schedule brings with it numerous innovations. A total of 30 destinations in 14 countries are on the program. These include seven scheduled destinations, five of which are major transfer airports such as Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna. These hubs enable connections to around 190 other destinations worldwide.
The range of holiday flights has also been expanded. In addition to classic destinations such as Palma de Mallorca, Antalya and Heraklion, Dalaman, Malta, Palermo and Riga will also be served directly from Graz for the first time from 2025. Mallorca is in particularly high demand: 30 additional departures are planned here.
Challenges in Cargo and General Aviation
Not all areas of the airport developed equally positively. While passenger numbers rose, freight fell by 18.700 percent to 3,6 tons. In the general aviation sector, the number of flight movements fell by 8,3 percent. This is attributed to a decline in commercial and training flights.
The upcoming opening of the Koralmbahn at the end of 2025 will further strengthen the role of Graz Airport as a central transport hub. Wolfgang Malik, CEO of Holding Graz, emphasized the strategic importance of the airport: "With the Koralmbahn and the Semmering Tunnel, Graz Airport will become the center of one of the most dynamic economic areas in Central Europe."
