Hahn Airport sees its cooperation with Ryanair as a key factor for the location in the future. Managing Director Rüdiger Franke explained to the German Press Agency that the Irish airline is firmly anchored at Hahn due to the short distances, fast turnaround times and low fees.
"It is a very dominant market player, but the low-cost market as a whole is one of the growth drivers," said Franke. He expressed optimism that Ryanair could even expand its activities at Hahn.
Franke, however, is critical of the general development of the aviation market in Germany. While other European countries have long since exceeded pre-coronavirus levels, the market in this country is still declining. He cited the high location costs and the air traffic tax as the main reasons, which he calls for to be abolished in order to strengthen Germany's competitiveness. According to Franke, tax relief could lead to growth that would balance out tax revenues in the long term.
The Irish airline Ryanair, which has been a major partner of Hahn Airport for years, could further revitalize the location by increasing its flight connections. However, given the current conditions, it remains unclear whether the aviation industry in Germany will stabilize.
