Hawaiian Airlines is surprising fans of the Disney film “Moana” with a new special livery for several aircraft, inspired by the upcoming animated musical “Moana 2”. This initiative highlights the cultural and historical significance of Polynesian seafaring skills and reflects the airline’s commitment to transporting Hawaiian tradition into the modern age.
The new design, which features well-known characters such as Moana and Maui, was unveiled on an Airbus A330. This special livery is just the beginning: In November, an Airbus A321neo and a Boeing 717 will also be presented in the "Moana 2" style. The theme of the new film fits seamlessly into the airline's branding and at the same time symbolizes the Polynesian seafaring heritage, which is honored by the aircraft names Hōkūleʻa, Koa and ʻElepaio. These names refer to traditional navigation methods and mythical symbols of the Polynesian people who have traversed the oceans for centuries.
To celebrate the partnership, Hawaiian Airlines is also offering passengers on Moana 2 flights special souvenirs to add a touch of adventure and nostalgia to the trip. Additionally, a contest called Navigate Your Own Adventure will be held, with winners earning an impressive 500.000 HawaiianMiles, an attractive incentive for frequent flyers and Disney fans alike.
The special paint schemes are part of a comprehensive marketing campaign in cooperation with Disney that incorporates the Polynesian heritage both artistically and thematically. The aircraft with the "Moana 2" design will be used on domestic and international routes to bring Hawaiian culture and Disney magic to a global audience. In addition to the paint scheme, the luggage compartments and in-flight entertainment media will also be equipped with film references.
"Moana 2," the film, which will be released on November 27, 2024, will continue the adventures of Moana and her companions by celebrating the mythology and identity of the Polynesian people, recalling the historical knowledge of ocean-faring peoples, acquired without modern instruments and only through observation of nature. This partnership highlights Hawaiian Airlines' mission to integrate the culture and tradition of the islands into its services and recalls the remarkable navigational skills that once distinguished the Polynesian people.
