At London Heathrow Airport, the largest airport in the United Kingdom, baggage handling employees are on strike for several days. Specifically affected is the professional group that is responsible for the maintenance and repair work on the baggage carousels.

According to a statement from the Unite union, around 170 employees could take part in the work stoppages that are being called for. It is assumed that there could at least be delays in the issuance of suitcases. There are currently calls for two waves of strikes, maintenance and repair work on the baggage carousels

Unless an agreement can be found, from October 6, 2023 (17:30 p.m.) to October 9, 2023 (6:00 a.m.) and from October 20, 2023 (5:30 a.m.) to October 30, 2023 (6:00 a.m.) the Work should be stopped. The company on strike is not the airport itself, but the service company Vanderlande, which is entrusted with these activities.

The strike threat follows the employer's rejection of two below-inflation wage offers of 5% and 2,5%. The union also alleges that the employers do not want to recognize the importance and safety relevance of the activities.
