Passengers voted Helsinki Airport the best airport in Northern Europe in a global customer satisfaction survey by Skytrax. The award was presented to Finavia in Frankfurt on April 17, 2024.

“It's fantastic that air passengers have once again chosen Helsinki Airport as the best airport in Northern Europe! This year we have already celebrated Helsinki Airport being selected as the best airport in Europe in its size category. It is clear that our airport has a strong position among the best airports in the world,” says Ulla Serlenius, Senior Vice President of Finavia, Helsinki Airport.

The Skytrax survey is an internationally renowned passenger survey that measures airport service standards and covers more than 550 airports worldwide. The survey was conducted between August 2023 and March 2024.

In the survey, air passengers widely evaluated the service standards and customer experience at airports at different stages of the passenger journey. This includes check-in, security checks, shopping and dining options as well as services for arriving and connecting passengers.

“Customer experience development was at the heart of the most extensive development program in Helsinki Airport’s history, which resulted in a complete redesign of the airport. In 2023, for example, we increased the amount of liquids allowed at security checks to two liters, opened a total of 26 shops, restaurants and cafés at the airport and modernized baggage logistics. It is no coincidence that last year we received the highest customer satisfaction ratings in the airport’s history.”

The award is the third in 2024 for Helsinki Airport, which is managed and developed by Finavia. The Airports Council International (ACI) recently recognized Helsinki Airport as the best airport in Europe in its size category. Helsinki Airport was also ranked as the fifth best airport in the world for business travelers based on Skytrax research.

Helsinki Airport has now been selected as the best airport in Northern Europe seven times.

“Year after year we remain among the best airports in the world because we set our goals high and work long-term to achieve them. I would like to thank all Finavia employees and the entire airport community for working together to ensure a smooth journey. A first-class customer experience is made up of many factors that every employee at the airport can influence through their own actions,” says Serlenius.
