The ÖAMTC expects the extended Corpus Christi weekend with a very high traffic volume in Austria. Especially the A10 (Tauern Autobahn) in the area of the tunnel construction site near Golling will once again become a major traffic jam point before this bottleneck is to be history at the end of June, according to traffic expert Marc Römer. A12 (Inntal motorway) in the greater Innsbruck area and further on the A13 (Brenner motorway) Considerable delays are expected. Travelers heading to Germany must also expect waiting times at the borders due to increased controls.
The first wave of travelers began Wednesday afternoon, leading to heavy traffic on the city's arterial roads. The club expects another wave of travelers heading toward local recreation areas starting early Friday afternoon. The weekend itself will primarily be dominated by return traffic on transit routes from the Adriatic via Austria toward Germany, as the Whitsun holidays end in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Short-term vacationers and day-trippers can expect traffic jams again at city entrances on Sunday and Monday.
In addition to the motorways, the ÖAMTC lists further traffic jam points: on the A1 near the Walserberg border, the A4 between the Prater and Schwechat junctions, the A8 at the Suben border crossing, and on the A9 in the Klaus–Inzersdorf-Kirchdorf construction zone and the Lainberg and Roßleithen tunnels. The A11 before the Karawanks Tunnel and the A23 (southeast bypass) along their entire length are also affected. Regional events such as the Gaisberg Race in Salzburg (19 to 21 June) and the Summer solstice in the Wachau on Saturday will result in road closures and increased traffic on the affected state roads (B3, B33). The ÖAMTC advises early arrival and careful observance of parking restrictions. Danube Island Festival in Vienna Travelling by public transport is recommended, as disruptions may occur on the Danube bridges.
