Hong Kong Airport wants to further expand its position as a regional hub for cargo and passengers. For this purpose, a third runway was built, which has since been put into operation.

Terminal 2 is also to be expanded. Adjustments are planned in the area of what is now the middle runway so that the infrastructure can be used more efficiently. The sum of the investments should result in the annual capacity being increased to around 10 million tons of cargo and 120 million passengers.

According to official information, passenger volume is currently 80 percent of the level it was before the corona pandemic. The operating company assumes that by the end of 2024 at the latest, the values that were achieved before the crisis will be reached again and that there will then be annual growth, which is why they want to create additional capacities.
