Increase in passenger numbers at Nuremberg Airport during the Carnival holidays

Nuremberg Airport anticipates increased passenger numbers during the 2026 Bavarian Carnival holidays. According to current forecasts from the airport company, approximately 91.000 passengers will use the northern Bavarian air hub, representing an increase of about 4.000 travelers compared to the previous year. February 21st is expected to be the busiest day of the holiday period, with nearly 11.000 passengers anticipated to be handled on that day alone. Airport management attributes this growth to continued high demand for holiday travel in the region.

Travelers are primarily focusing on warm-water destinations. Hurghada in Egypt leads the list of direct destinations with nearly 6.000 passengers, closely followed by Mallorca with around 5.500 travelers. The Canary Islands are also experiencing stable booking figures. In addition to traditional holiday travel, connections to international hubs play a key role. The KLM connection to Amsterdam is expected to be used by more than 6.100 passengers, who then connect to other routes worldwide.

Additional industry data illustrates that Nuremberg Airport has specifically tailored its winter capacity to the needs of leisure travelers. While domestic flights within Germany are stagnating overall, regional airports like Nuremberg are benefiting from the expansion of services offered by charter airlines and European network carriers. To ensure smooth operations on the predicted peak day, additional staff will be deployed for ground handling and security checks.

Current developments underscore the importance of Nuremberg Airport as a key feeder hub for international air traffic in southern Germany. Despite economic volatility, Bavarian households' holiday travel budgets remain stable, which is reflected in the aircraft utilization. Experts point out that early booking of flight allotments by tour operators has increased planning certainty for the airport, ensuring the smooth logistical handling of the 91.000 passengers.
