EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg is expanding its service portfolio with a significant addition to its accommodation infrastructure. For the first time in the history of the trinational airport, a hotel complex is being built directly on the airport grounds, right next to the main roundabout in front of the terminal on the Swiss side.
The construction project comprises two different hotel brands with a total capacity of 140 rooms. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2027 and is intended to close a long-standing gap in on-site services for air passengers and staff.
The project is being developed and operated by the KER Hospitality Group. The company is employing a dual-brand concept under the Accor umbrella: 80 rooms in the budget-friendly Ibis Budget category and 60 rooms in the upscale 4-star Tribe brand are planned. This differentiation aims to appeal to both cost-conscious travelers and discerning business travelers and airline crews. The location at the terminal allows passengers with early departures or late arrivals to avoid lengthy transfers to external hotels in the surrounding area, thus increasing the logistical efficiency of the site.
The decision to build the complex comes at a time when EuroAirport is further consolidating its role as a central mobility hub in the tri-border region. Additional research surrounding the airport's planning reveals that this project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the location's attractiveness. In recent years, the airport has experienced stable passenger numbers, increasing pressure on the surrounding hotel infrastructure. Direct access to the terminal building is considered a crucial competitive advantage over other regional airports that already offer accommodation near the terminal.
Airport Director Tobias Markert emphasizes that the new hotel complex is a valuable addition to the services offered to the millions of passengers who use the airport each year. The project is being developed in close coordination with the building authorities, and the modern architecture has been designed to blend seamlessly into the existing airport environment. For the KER Hospitality Group, the project represents a strategic milestone in expanding its presence in the airport hotel sector and capitalizing on the high volume of international air traffic at EuroAirport.
