In response to a rocket attack by the Houthi militia on Tel Aviv Airport, the Israeli Air Force launched a massive airstrike on the international airport in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa. According to the Houthi-affiliated television station Al-Masirah, three people were killed and 38 others injured in the attacks on Tuesday. The station described the attack as a joint Israeli-US operation, with a cement factory and a power plant near the airport also reportedly being targeted.
The Israeli army confirmed the attacks and stated that it had destroyed the Houthi militia's infrastructure at Sanaa Airport, including runways and aircraft. The airport serves the Houthis as a central hub for arms and personnel transport. Unconfirmed reports indicate that an Airbus A330 and two Airbus A320s belonging to Yemenia Airways were destroyed, prompting the airline to temporarily suspend operations. The Israeli military also reportedly attacked several power plants in the Sanaa area used by the Houthis, as well as a concrete factory.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the attacks in Yemen as a warning to Tehran and threatened further consequences for Iran, which supports the Houthi militia. UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg expressed concern about the escalation. Sources at Sanaa Airport confirmed the suspension of flight operations and the destruction or damage of several aircraft.
