The low-cost airline Fly Arystan will operate under its own AOC in the future. Until now it was just a brand of Air Astana. This is the second low-cost brand that has recently been spun off into an independent company.
Competitor Turkish Airlines has spun off the activities of the Anadolujet brand, which were previously carried out on the parent company's AOC, into a new subsidiary with its own certificates. This now operates as Ajet and is expected to expand significantly in the next few years.
The Kazakh Air Astana took roughly the same approach. So far, the flights of the low-cost brand Fly Arystan have been carried out on the parent company's AOC. These activities have now been spun off into a new subsidiary. This received AOC and operating license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Kazakhstan on April 1, 2024.
According to the announcement, the business models of the two brands want to be more separated from each other. This should enable Fly Arystan to expand more efficiently. Air Astana's low-cost brand has been on the market since 2019. Last year, a separate subsidiary was founded, which has now received the certificates necessary to operate commercial passenger flights.
Fly Arystan's fleet is expected to be expanded to 2024 aircraft in 24. The spin-off also enables – at least in theory – Air Astana to open up the low-cost airline to investors. In theory, a sale would also be possible. However, there are currently no plans for Air Astana to separate from the low-cost subsidiary.
