Klagenfurt Airport (KLU) is planning a significant capacity increase on one of its most important routes to Germany for the 2026 summer flight schedule. The airline Eurowings is increasing the frequency of the existing connection between Cologne / Bonn and Klagenfurt from two to three weekly flights. This represents a 50 percent increase in flight frequencies on this route and represents a significant improvement for the market as a whole. 23.400 Sitzplätze available, that's 7.800 more seats than last year.
The increase is strategically justified, since North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) Klagenfurt Airport represents one of the most important source markets for tourism in Carinthia. Managing Director Maximilian Wildt emphasized that the improved connection sends an important signal to the tourism destination and improves accessibility for guests from the densely populated and economically strong Cologne area. The route's catchment area extends across borders into the... Netherlands, from where a noticeable demand is already being recorded.
Furthermore, the connection also benefits from the growing role of Cologne/Bonn Airport as Interchange hub within the Eurowings route network. Passengers from Carinthia will benefit from more attractive connections to other European metropolises such as Berlin, Zurich, London Heathrow, and tourist destinations like Barcelona and Heraklion thanks to the increased frequency. The higher frequency on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays thus increases the relevance of the Klagenfurt connection for business and leisure travelers and promotes Carinthia's overall connectivity with Central Europe.
