Austrian Airlines and ÖBB will launch their joint AIRail offer With the opening of the new Koralmbahn on December 14, 2025, Klagenfurt will become the fifth city to be connected to the intermodal network to Vienna Airport. The cooperation already includes the cities of Linz, Graz, Salzburg, and Innsbruck.
The new rail connection between Klagenfurt Central Station and Vienna Airport will operate every two hours, with seven direct journeys in just under four hours. The combined offer from the two companies allows travelers to travel the entire route from Klagenfurt to over 125 destinations in the Austrian Airlines route network with just one ticket. The connection is part of the growing trend towards intermodal travel, in which airlines cooperate with rail to increase capacity utilization of their long-haul flights. According to Annette Mann, CEO of Austrian Airlines, the expansion strengthens the partnership with ÖBB and offers travelers a new, attractive option for their journey. The new rail connection will directly compete with the existing flight route between Klagenfurt and Vienna, which is currently served by two daily flights.
