Some time ago, the EU Commission expressed serious concerns about the proposed merger of Asiana Airlines and Korean Air. It is feared that freight rates between South Korea and the Union territory could become more expensive.

Now Korean Air is offering the prospect of offering as a concession that the cargo division of Asiana Airlines could be sold after the takeover. This is intended to dispel concerns of the EU Commission. Previously there were considerations that individual aircraft could be handed over to other operators.
