The inaugural flight on July 14, 1976, marked the first direct air link between the Republic of Korea and Switzerland. Over the past five decades, the route has established itself as a vital pillar of bilateral trade and tourism, with Zurich now serving as one of the airline's key European hubs.
To strengthen its market position in Switzerland, the airline expanded its range of services to coincide with its anniversary. A new partnership with Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) offers passengers an integrated travel chain between Zurich Airport and numerous Swiss cities through a Rail & Fly service. This strategic network aims to optimize access to the hub for business travelers and tourists from across the country. At the same time, the airline is consolidating its presence through continuous investment in ground infrastructure and connections to the local transport market.
From June 2, 2026, the route will see a significant increase in capacity and comfort through the deployment of the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. These aircraft are equipped with the latest cabin generation, the so-called Prestige Suites 2.0, which offer Business Class passengers a new design and enhanced privacy. Seat pitch and seatback angles have also been adjusted in Economy Class to meet the demands of long-haul travel. The introduction of this modernized aircraft underscores Korean Air's commitment to increasing efficiency on this route and maintaining its competitiveness against other international carriers in Asia.
The 50th anniversary celebrations coincide with a period of Korean Air's expansion in the European market. The company emphasizes the long-term importance of Switzerland as a business location and plans to further increase frequencies and service quality on the Seoul route.
