Last day of noise protection at BER – deadline for applications expires

Advertising

Today, Thursday, May 15, 2025, the Berlin Brandenburg Airport (FBB) held the last of its annual Noise Abatement Days, which have been held annually since 2016. Representatives of construction companies, the FBB Noise Abatement Team, and experts on aircraft noise and flight routes participated in the event. A total of over 2.000 people attended the previous Noise Abatement Days. This final event coincides with the approaching deadline for submitting noise abatement applications.

Homeowners in the region surrounding BER Airport can only assert their claims for noise protection until November 4, 2025. This date marks the fifth anniversary of the airport's commissioning. All required documentation must be submitted in full by this date. For claims submitted by 2022 at the latest, the costs of implemented noise protection measures will only be reimbursed until the end of 2025.

Since the noise protection program began in 2006, FBB has received more than 22.700 applications for noise protection, of which over 22.000 have been processed. Around 5.200 households have already implemented noise protection measures, while around 8.100 are still pending. A further 7.600 households received compensation because the costs of the noise protection measures amounted to more than 30 percent of the building's market value. In addition to the Noise Protection Days, FBB regularly provides information as part of the "Neighbors in Dialogue" series and offers individual consultations and a noise protection hotline. The Berlin Brandenburg Airport Dialogue Forum has also served as a platform for discussion on aircraft noise and noise protection since 2006. The legal basis for the noise protection program is the planning approval decision of 2004 and subsequent court rulings. Around 26.500 households in the vicinity of BER are entitled to noise protection.
