Leipzig/Halle Airport is the scene of a groundbreaking development in the aviation industry: Deutsche Aircraft is building the world's most modern final assembly line for regional aircraft here. The production site for the new D328eco not only continues the legacy of the proven Dornier 328, but also paves the way for a new era in aircraft construction. A final assembly line, a logistics center, an administration building and a flight standby hangar are being built on an area of 60.500 square meters.

The D328eco is a further development of the Dornier 328, an aircraft that is appreciated worldwide for its reliability and versatility. The new version is being developed as a 40-seat turboprop regional aircraft. The aim is to reduce operating costs and increase efficiency. With fuel consumption reduced by 15 percent and CO₂ emissions 25 percent lower than comparable models, the D328eco stands out in its class.

Deutsche Aircraft will build the new production facility at Leipzig/Halle Airport with an investment of over 100 million euros. This "Factory 4.0" is characterized by a completely paperless working method, comprehensive automation and the use of the latest technologies such as 3D modeling and augmented reality. After construction work is completed in 2025, final assembly of the first D328eco aircraft is scheduled to begin in 2026. The first delivery is planned for 2027.

A region becomes the center of aviation

The project will bring significant economic stimulus to the region. The plan is to create 250 to 350 highly qualified jobs, and recruitment and training have already begun. Götz Ahmelmann, CEO of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, emphasized how important this development is for the Leipzig/Halle location: "We are continuing the history of aircraft construction in the region and creating a basis for long-term success."

Yves Weerts, President of the Weerts Group, was also enthusiastic: "By implementing this project, we are laying the foundation for a successful future for Deutsche Aircraft." The collaboration with international partners and the use of innovative technologies are intended to make the Leipzig site a global pioneer in aircraft construction.

A new era of aircraft construction

Up to 328 D48eco aircraft are to be produced annually. In addition to the final assembly line in Leipzig, Deutsche Aircraft is building a test aircraft at the Oberpfaffenhofen site, which is scheduled to make its maiden flight at the end of 2025. The company sees itself as a strategic partner for the development of modern regional aircraft and as a bridge between proven technology and innovative solutions.

With the D328eco, Deutsche Aircraft is not only pursuing technical excellence, but also strengthening the European aviation industry. The Leipzig site will thus not only become a center for modern aircraft construction, but also a significant source of inspiration for the region and beyond.
