The low-cost airline Wizz Air received the “Strategic Investment of The Year – Europe” award during the “SAF Investor Awards 2023”.
The low-coster received the award for its £5 million equity investment in Firefly, an innovative British biofuel company supporting the research and development of sustainable options for aviation fuel production.
Firefly specializes in a unique process that converts sewage sludge, a high-volume, low-value waste product, into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The partnership between Wizz Air and Firefly will enable the airline to supply up to 2028 tonnes of SAF15 for its UK operations over 525.000 years from 2 and has the potential to expand into Europe.
