Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Since 1994, the Lufthansa Group has been collecting climate data on regular passenger flights to support atmospheric research.

Currently, up to three measurement flights are in operation every day, including the Airbus A330-300 from Discover Airlines, which flies from Frankfurt to Orlando and records climate data. The data is used by around 300 organizations worldwide and is incorporated into climate models and weather forecasts. As part of the IAGOS project, the Airbus A350-900 "Erfurt" is to be used as a flying laboratory from 2025.
