Deutsche Bahn AG, Lufthansa and United Airlines want to connect even more German train stations to the international flight networks of the two Star Alliance carriers in the future. The collaboration begins on November 22, 2023.

United passengers traveling from Germany to the USA via Frankfurt Airport can then book the journey by train to the airport with the subsequent transatlantic flight and any connecting flights in the USA in a single transaction as a combined fare on a single ticket. This new offer allows passengers to connect 25 German cities as well as Basel/Switzerland with United's hubs in New York/Newark, Chicago, Washington, Houston, Denver and San Francisco as well as numerous other destinations in America.

The cooperation is based on the so-called “Intermodal Partnership” model, which was presented by the Star Alliance last year. Deutsche Bahn AG was named as first member that is not an airline itself, presents. They also want to integrate ferries and long-distance buses so that non-stop tickets can be issued.

“We are very pleased to announce our new partnership with Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn,” emphasizes Patrick Quayle, Senior Vice President Global Network Planning and Alliances at United Airlines. “This new collaboration will give our guests more travel options and additional flexibility, as they can easily connect 25 cities across Germany with the United States via a convenient transfer at Frankfurt Airport – all with just a single ticket.”
