The Lufthansa Group's newest flight operation, City Airlines, is scheduled to begin operations in summer 2024. The aircraft will be stationed in Frankfurt am Main and Munich and will be used alongside Lufthansa Cityline and Air Dolomiti for feeder services.

Recruitment of operational personnel will begin in November 2023. At the start, pilots and cabin crew are being sought. A statement from Lufthansa states that English-speaking pilots will also be taken into account. This is a paradigm shift, because until now good knowledge of German was a basic requirement for a job at Kranich. Offers on voluntary switching conditions can be negotiated for interested parties within the group. This particularly includes Lufthansa CityLine staff.

“With City Airlines we want to create perspectives for the coming decades and secure sustainable jobs in Germany. This is the only way we can grow and sustainably strengthen the hubs in Munich and Frankfurt,” says Jens Fehlinger, Managing Director of City Airlines.

Initially, City Airlines will launch with used Airbus A319s. At a later date, the fleet will be switched to regional jets from the Embraer E2 series or Airbus A220. According to City Airlines, evaluations are currently ongoing. A final decision has not yet been made as to which manufacturer the parent company will order from.
