Maldivian is expected to put the first widebody into commercial liner service in the third quarter of 2024. It is still unclear which type of machine will be purchased and on which routes it will be used.

It was recently announced that the government of the Maldives has ordered that the national airline Maldivian should be more involved in the long-haul business. Transport Minister Mohamed Ameen told PSM News that the first wide-body jet should enter commercial scheduled service in September 2024.

It has not yet been decided whether the Boeing 787-8 or Airbus A330-200 will be deployed. Both machine types have been officially advertised and the deadline for submitting offers has already passed. However, the company has not yet announced whether it will add Dreamliners and/or A330s. The first routes are still completely open. So far, Maldivian has mainly operated in domestic traffic.
