Measurement flights are planned at Zurich Airport in the summer of 2024 to check the new instrument landing system on runway 34 and the other navigation systems. Flights will be carried out between June 3rd and 7th and July 1st and 5th to replace the approximately 20-year-old instrument landing system and to check the accuracy and stability of the glide path signal.
The periodic measurement flights for the remaining navigation systems are planned for the period from August 26th to 30th. The flights take place in the afternoon and sometimes at night until two o'clock in the morning at the latest, outside of regular flight operations. The measurement flights include approaches to the side, above and below the published flight path, sometimes away from the usual flight routes. The signals from the navigation systems are recorded and evaluated. The flights are carried out with a Beechcraft King Air 350 twin-engine propeller aircraft, which has the most modern navigation aids and a high-precision flight measurement device. Skyguide air traffic control is responsible for planning and carrying out the measurement flights, which contribute to ensuring flight safety and efficiency at Zurich Airport.
