Montenegro cuts airport fees to promote low-cost flights

The Montenegrin Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with Airports of Montenegro, has decided to reduce fees in order to retain existing low-cost airlines and attract new airlines.

Transport Minister Maja Vukićević criticized the previous fee increase as damaging to the country's air traffic. This decision resulted in Ryanair operating only a single route from Podgorica in winter. Vukićević stressed that Montenegro's airports have lost competitiveness in regional comparison, which has led to many locals using neighboring airports. The new pricing policy is intended to strengthen the low-cost market and ensure the year-round operation of low-cost airlines in Montenegro.
