Munich Airport is initially testing the advance reservation of appointments for security and passport controls for 60 days. The aim is to shorten waiting times and better control capacities. For the time being, the offer is voluntary and free of charge.

A few weeks ago, Berlin-Brandenburg Airport led the way is the first German airport to reserve time slots for security checks in advance. In Munich they go one step further, because they also want to allocate slots at the official passport control "with an appointment". In this way, Munich Airport wants to reduce waiting times.

The new service is initially being tested in Terminal 1 in Modules B and C. Passengers can reserve a 30-minute time slot online to go through security and passport controls. The latter is only for non-Schengen connections. After making a reservation, travelers should receive a QR code that entitles them to use a special fast lane for the desired period of time.

The service is offered daily from 06:00 to 15:00 at the security checkpoints in Departures Concourses B and C of Terminal 1. The last possible time slot is no later than 90 minutes before departure time. Passengers wishing to use Express Queue must present themselves at the Express Queue entrance prior to security within their time slot after completing check-in. With the QR code on the reservation confirmation, passengers go directly to the security check via the separate entrance. It is also possible to use a separate lane at passport control with the same QR code. Munich Airport is initially testing this procedure for 60 days.
