With the introduction of ten electric solo passenger buses from MAN Truck & Bus Germany, Munich Airport is taking another step towards its “Net Zero 2035” sustainability strategy.

A total of 2024 MAN Lion's City E 37 and E 12 electric buses are to be put into operation by the end of 18, with an option for 25 more vehicles. The buses will be operated by AeroGround, a subsidiary of Munich Airport GmbH (FMG), and are part of efforts to make the airport's fleet completely emission-free by 2030.

According to Jost Lammers, CEO of FMG, the change will help reduce air pollutants and CO2 emissions while improving passenger comfort. The buses are particularly efficient for use on short routes and at low speeds on the airport grounds. The vehicles have modern safety and comfort features, including sustainable air conditioning.

The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) with 23,8 million euros. The funds come from the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP) and the EU program NextGenerationEU. The charging infrastructure for the new electric buses is currently being expanded to support emission-free operation.
