The municipality of Skyros has entered into a strategic partnership with Zela Aviation to improve the island's air connectivity and promote its tourism offerings to international markets. The airline recently announced this. Zela Aviation, a company with over 19 years of experience in the aviation industry and offices in the United Kingdom, Cyprus, and Greece, will contribute its global expertise to support the development of Skyros as a summer destination.
This new agreement marks Zela Aviation's third municipal consulting partnership in Greece, following successful collaborations with the municipalities of Sitia (Crete) in 2022 and Syros in 2024. These long-term initiatives aim to unlock the regional potential of Greek islands and increase their accessibility by air. Skyros, the largest island in the Sporades, is known for its pristine nature, traditional architecture, and rich cultural heritage.
As part of the cooperation, Zela Aviation, through its Zela Jet brand, will also promote the use of business jets and helicopters on Skyros for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Skyros National Airport, which opened in 1984 and has a 3.002-meter runway, serves as the main gateway to the island. It is capable of handling larger aircraft and currently connects the island to Athens and other national destinations. Zela Aviation will work closely with the municipality and Skyros Mayor Kyriakos Antonopoulos to attract international tour operators and airlines for seasonal and charter flights. Collaboration with low-cost airlines will also be explored to make Skyros accessible to a wider range of travelers and promote year-round tourism growth. Mayor Antonopoulos emphasized that the partnership heralds a new era for the island.
