Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport in North Rhine-Westphalia will now bear the additional name “Heinz Nixdorf” in memory of the computer pioneer, whose 100th birthday will be next year.
Heinz Nixdorf, who was born in Paderborn in 1925, built up a globally successful company in the 1950s to 1970s and is considered a key figure in the German economic miracle. By naming the airport after Nixdorf, the airport is honoring Nixdorf's important role in the region and his support of the airport through financial contributions and numerous business trips.
Airport Supervisory Board Chairman Christoph Rüther emphasized that Paderborn/Lippstadt Airport is the first commercial airport in Germany to be named after an entrepreneur. Managing Director Roland Hüser also emphasized the important role that Nixdorf played in the economic development of the region and the sustainable success of the airport.
