The Turkish airline Pegasus Airlines has announced a significant expansion of its route network for the summer of 2025. The focus is particularly on connections from Germany, Switzerland and Austria to popular holiday destinations in Turkey. The new routes not only promise greater variety for travelers, but also underline the growing importance of Pegasus Airlines for smaller airports.

The summer flight schedules include several new connections that are specifically tailored to the demand of holidaymakers. One of the central routes is the daily connection between Erfurt and Antalya, which will be available from April 26, 2025. Antalya, one of the most popular destinations on the Turkish Riviera, is known for its sandy beaches and tourist infrastructure.

In addition, flights between Graz and Antalya will be offered up to four times a week from April 12, 2025. Salzburg, another important starting point in Austria, will have a connection to Antalya from April 13, 2025, which will be served up to three times a week.

German travelers will also benefit from expanded options: Pegasus Airlines will offer a weekly connection between Munich and Izmir from June 7 to September 13, 2025. Izmir, an important port city on the Aegean coast, offers a mix of cultural heritage and modern leisure opportunities. For Swiss vacationers, a weekly connection between Zurich and Izmir will start from September 20, 2025.

strategy behind the expansion

The new connections reflect Pegasus Airlines' strategy to expand its presence in Europe and intensify competition with other providers. By focusing on tourist destinations, the airline is targeting a growing target group that is looking for comfortable and direct flights at affordable prices.

Antalya and Izmir are particularly attractive destinations, as they are popular with both package holidaymakers and individual holidaymakers. While Antalya is primarily known as a bathing paradise, Izmir attracts visitors with its cultural highlights and its proximity to historical sites such as Ephesus.

importance for regional airports

The decision to offer connections from smaller airports such as Erfurt and Graz shows the growing importance of regional airports in European air traffic. Such airports offer shorter travel routes for travelers from surrounding areas and at the same time relieve pressure on larger hubs such as Munich and Zurich. The new connections could boost the number of passengers at the airports concerned, which is beneficial not only for the airline but also for local industries.

Pegasus Airlines, one of Turkey's leading low-cost airlines, was founded in 1990 and has been developing steadily since then. With a modern fleet and a wide route network, it is one of the major players in Turkish and European air traffic. In addition to low fares, the airline also offers various additional options to meet the needs of its customers.

Challenges and perspectives

Pegasus Airlines' expansion comes at a time when the European aviation industry is facing several challenges, including rising operating costs and intense competition. Nevertheless, the expansion of the route network could help the airline strengthen its market position and reach new target groups.

By focusing on tourist routes, Pegasus Airlines also shows that it is able to respond flexibly to market needs. If demand for travel to Turkey remains strong, Pegasus Airlines' new routes from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will open up additional travel options for holidaymakers and at the same time strengthen the connections between Europe and Turkey. With this expansion, the airline is underlining its ambition to remain a major player in international tourism.
