Hamburg Airport expects many passengers to travel during the upcoming Pentecost holidays. In some cases, even more passengers are expected than in the same period of 2019.

The airport expects more than 45.000 passengers per day, especially on weekends, which is around 70 percent of the pre-crisis level for the first time. Around 170 take-offs and 170 landings are planned on the busiest travel days. Passengers should prepare well, arrive at the airport at least two hours in advance and use online and automated check-in services.

In the next few weeks, Hamburg Airport expects more than 260.000 arriving and departing passengers per week - this is the highest number of passengers since the beginning of the corona pandemic more than two years ago. Demand has been increasing noticeably for weeks, with an average weekly average of around 62 percent of passengers traveling from Hamburg Airport in April 2019. In the next few weeks, the value of 70 percent compared to 2019 is expected to be exceeded again for the first time.

"The further we get towards summer, the more clearly we sense that the North Germans want to get out again - out of the familiar environment, off on the plane and in the sun. Classic holiday destinations such as Mallorca, Greece, Turkey or the Canary Islands are particularly popular. The demand is so great that we count more passengers in the terminals than in 2019,” says Katja Bromm, Head of Communications at Hamburg Airport. “All partners at the airport have prepared well for these skyrocketing peak loads. However, as in gastronomy, for example, the search for personnel and personnel planning remain challenging. And for many passengers it will also be the first flight in more than two years.”
