With around 240.000 expected passengers, Nuremberg Airport can build on the pre-pandemic level during the Pentecost holidays. For comparison: in 2019, 243.000 holidaymakers used the airport during the holidays. The number of targets has also regained its old strength at almost 70.
Around 1.800 take-offs and landings are coordinated, which corresponds to an average of 105 per day. The busiest travel day will probably be the last Friday of the two vacation weeks (June 17). Top direct destinations from Nuremberg are Antalya and Mallorca. This is followed by the major hub airports of Frankfurt, Istanbul and Amsterdam with onward flights to the USA, Thailand or South America, for example. The holiday regions of Izmir, Heraklion and Thessaloniki as well as Hurghada in Egypt are also particularly in demand.
The planes are well filled again, but last-minute travelers still have a last-minute chance of a holiday under a blue sky: There are still seats available on the planes to Ibiza, Chania on Crete, Faro in Portugal and Lamezia Terme in Italy . Always worth a trip: Paris, the city of love, which now also has Orly city airport.
Plan sufficient time buffer
In order to be prepared for the increased number of passengers, the operational areas of the airport are increasing their staff, for example at check-in or baggage handling, as Nuremberg Airport announced in a press release. Due to the high volume of travel, travelers are asked to plan sufficient time. Especially during the holiday weeks, it is recommended to be at the airport at least two hours before departure, as waiting times are to be expected both at check-in and at the security checkpoint. The gastronomy is also preparing for the rush.
