The airline SAS already seems to be preparing for its upcoming move to the Skyteam aviation alliance. From mid-June 2024, daily non-stop flights will operate between Copenhagen and Atlanta.
The choice of the US destination does not seem to be a coincidence, as Delta Air Lines has a large hub at this airport. The carrier mentioned is a future Skyteam partner of SAS. The inclusion of the Atlanta route can therefore also be interpreted as an anticipation of future membership in the aforementioned aviation alliance.
SAS is a founding member of the competing Star Alliance, of which it is currently a member. However, this will be abandoned because Air France-KLM is also a member of a consortium that was awarded the contract to join. As part of the announcement, it was also stated that SAS would join the Skyteam, which also includes Delta, Air France and KLM, among others. will change.
From June 17, 2024, SAS will offer daily flights between Copenhagen and Atlanta. It is entirely conceivable that connections to the Delta hub could follow from other airports in the Scandinavian region. There are currently some decentralized New York routes that are served by Airbus A321LR. It is likely that these will be coordinated with Delta in the future in such a way that they fit optimally into the US route network and that feeders and connections are available to travelers.
